Hmte, the Movie « Thread Started on Jun 22, 2007, 10:56pm »
From the moment of the first appearance of the giant ants, I've known there was a seed of a potential storyline in them. There have been a few near misses in terms of getting it started, but usually only as part of a different SL (The Rhydin Humans Only movement comes to mind.)
Well, now I'm making a go of it for its own sake. I intend that before the year is out, the Hmte SL will be kicked into high, and ultimately resolved.
In order to accomplish this, I will require one fundamental characters participation -
A telepath capable of communicating with an inhuman mind. This is ideal, although someone capable of communicate via pheromones might be an adequate replacement. This character will endure some moding, and some intensely confusing mental communication, but no permanent damage will be inflicted.
Also, some 'bodyguards' for this character. When in the Lair of Hmte (The chatroom in which at least some of this will play out) I will observe the following rule - if anyone makes an attack on an ant, they can depend on taking damage in some way. Hmte has actually become able to stalemate most forms of magical and technological forces, leaving brutal hand-to-hand combat the only recourse. Otherwise I will not call shots or mode to anyone who is simply along for the ride.
The heavies will also have to take this bit of frustration - they will lose track of the telepath. Granted, the telepath in question might be a heavy too - there is nothing to preclude that - but in a sense the telepathic contact will be happening out of sight of the soldier/bodyguards. And that won't be where the real fighting happens. The confrontation that occurs through telepathy will be much more subtle.

The telepath doesn't have to be anything except comprehensible. Hmte's half of the conversation is going to be weird enough, we don't need a counterpoint from a fungus-boy whose time is running in reverse.
Although, of itself, that would be a hell of a character idea.
